Heads up! From here on out we will be making announcements on our changelog instead of this blog:

You'll see a handy red indicator on the Streamable interface when there's a new post.

tag:blog.streamable.com,2013:Post/1022308 2016-03-30T19:10:52Z 2016-11-11T22:50:47Z Streamable for Mac

UPDATE: The Streamable Mac app has been retired. Please use a dedicated recording suite such as Voila or ShareX.

We're very excited to announce the launch of Streamable for Mac! You can now capture video from your screen and upload directly to Streamable, all from the comfort of your Mac menu bar.

It's available as a free download from the Mac App Store.

By default, Streamable for Mac will record audio from the default recording device (usually your Mac microphone). If you'd like to record system audio, you'll need to install a free utility called Soundflower from one of the following links:

OS X 10.11 (El Capitan): Soundflower-2.0b2.dmg

OS X 10.6 to 10.10: Soundflower-1.6.6b.dmg

Next, you'll want to open up an application called "Audio MIDI Setup" located in Applications -> Utilities and create a new multi-output device (click the + in the bottom left hand corner). Then select Soundflower (2ch) and Built-in Output as shown below:

Finally, open up your Sound settings in System Preferences -> Sound and select Multi-Output Device as the output and Soundflower (2ch) as the input:

You should now be able to hear system audio and record at the same time. Please let us know if you run into any issues: support@streamable.com.

This weekend we’ll be running advertisements below the fold on all video pages with 1,000 views or greater. It's the first time we've run an ad campaign on Streamable, and it will probably be a little jarring at first.

Many of you will want to know why we're running ads, and the answer is probably not very surprising -- we need to make money to keep Streamable up and running. We're a very small team and we run super lean, but our hosting and bandwidth bills are currently running tens of thousands of dollars a month, and growing fast!

Pics or it didn't happen? Here's a screenshot from Fastly (our CDN):

We promise to keep advertisements family-friendly and to not interfere with the Streamable viewing and upload experience. If you have any feedback or questions regarding our ad program, please don't hesitate to reach out at support@streamable.com.

We're excited to announce Stream Copy, a new feature that lets you share your video in it's original, untouched form. You don't have to do anything special to enable Stream Copy, just make sure your upload fits the following parameters:

Format: H.264 (if your video ends in .mp4 you're probably good)

Level: Main Profile 3.1 or lower

4K 60FPS: Under 18M bitrate

1080p 60FPS: Under 10M bitrate

720p 60FPS: Under 7M bitrate

480p 60FPS: Under 4M bitrate

4K 30FPS: Under 14M bitrate

1080p 30FPS: Under 8M bitrate

720p 30FPS: Under 5M bitrate

480p 30FPS: Under 3M bitrate

As long as you upload in the specified format and your video falls under the acceptable bitrate range, we won't touch it. Please note that this only applies when you're viewing on laptop and desktop - mobile viewers will continue receive an lower-resolution version that's optimized for maximum compatibility.

Then simply paste the credentials into your streaming software of choice. You can adjust your network settings using the following estimator tool. We're using OBS for this example:

Shortly after you have completed a stream, the video will show up in your videos where you can click the "Edit" button to trim it and add any finishing touches:

That's it! If you have any issues with the Broadcast feature please let us know at support@streamable.com.
